ESE Chair's Alumni Message

Main content start
Hamdi Tchelepi, ESE Department Chair

Since 1962, the Energy Science and Engineering Department (formerly Petroleum Engineering and Energy Resources Engineering), has been welcoming students to join us as they complete their education, and conduct research in an effort to sustain and diversify the earth’s energy supply, and to influence and adapt the changing energy landscape. After graduation, our students become alumni who continue to support this mission.

The University and Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability provide alumni with useful resources and opportunities to network. ESE has developed new plans to support those existing programs, but to also promote direct connections to our department and the faculty, staff, students and affiliates with whom alumni have collaborated and bonded over the years.

We have established ESE Alumni Outreach Services, a group tasked with the responsibilities of managing communications, event planning, and ensuring that our alumni are engaged in all aspects of life at Stanford.

We begin with “ESE Alumni Appreciation Month” in October, which will include a virtual Alumni Reunion during SPE ATCE, a virtual Alumni Panel to discuss all aspects of the student-to-alum experience, and an Inaugural ESE Alum Talk which will allow students, staff, and faculty at Stanford to ask one of our esteemed friends questions about their life and work. Our alumni continue to do amazing things in the world, so we will be highlighting those achievements on a more regular basis.

We understand that these are challenging times. Our alumni are diverse and have an abundance of knowledge in all areas of life. Our goal is to pool our collective experiences and resources to enhance education for students, support research, and maintain our very special community. Please be on the lookout for opportunities to engage. We will be in touch!
